What is not in the $199

Being honest about this matters more than looking cheap, so here is the full list:

  • CPAP equipment. If you need a machine it is billed separately as durable medical equipment — commonly $500 to $1,000 cash, or covered by insurance.
  • An in-lab study, if your case turns out to need one. We do not perform in-lab studies and will refer you.
  • Treatment of other conditions found along the way, such as a cardiac workup or thyroid and iron testing.
  • A repeat study, if the first night's data is unusable because the device came off. This is uncommon, and we do not charge again for a device failure on our end.

If you would rather use insurance, we accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most commercial plans. We will run both numbers and tell you which one is actually cheaper for you.

Context

What the same diagnosis costs elsewhere

These are published national cash ranges by facility type. We are not quoting any specific Athens practice ask them directly, and ask in writing.

Under the federal No Surprises Act, any uninsured or self-pay patient can request a written Good Faith Estimate before scheduling. Ask for it every time.

Why the gap is so large

An overnight lab study bills you for a room, an on-site technologist watching you all night, hospital-grade equipment, a facility fee, and a separate physician fee. A home test cuts out the room and the staffing. For uncomplicated obstructive sleep apnea in an adult, you are buying the same answer.

Insurance, Plainly

Should you use insurance, or just pay the $199?

Often cheaper to pay cash

High-deductible plan, early in the year

With a $2,000 deductible you have not touched, your insurer pays nothing and you owe the full negotiated rate. $199 usually wins outright.

Usually use insurance

Medicare Part B

Medicare covers home sleep apnea testing when medically necessary, with 20% coinsurance after your annual deductible. New prior authorization rules took effect January 1, 2026.

Run both numbers

Commercial plan, deductible met

Once your deductible is met, insurance may bring your share below $199. We check your benefits before you commit to either path.

We will not steer you toward whichever option pays us more. Call 706-613-6990 and ask us to run both.

Cost Questions

Frequently asked about price

Is $199 really the total?
Yes, for the home sleep apnea test itself. Device, instructions, Dr. Agrawal's interpretation, and your results visit are all in it. The only things billed separately are listed above on this page.
Do I have to pay up front?
Payment is due at the visit where you pick up the device. Card, check, HSA, and FSA cards are accepted.
What if I can't afford $199?
Call and ask. We would rather work something out than have you go untested for another two years, especially with a cardiac history.
Will you give me a Good Faith Estimate in writing?
Yes, and so must every other provider you ask. It is your right under federal law as a self-pay patient.
Does the price change if the test finds something?
No. $199 buys the answer, whatever the answer turns out to be. Treatment is a separate conversation with separate costs, laid out before you agree to anything.
