Why CPAP Follow-Up Care Is Essential for Successful Sleep Apnea...

Your heartbeat and your breathing are the same story.
Most of Athens makes you pick a cardiologist or a sleep doctor. Dr. Subodh Agrawal is board-certified in both, so one physician reads the whole trace and the home sleep study that starts it is a flat $199.
What This Actually Costs
Nobody else in Athens will show you a price. Here's ours.
You are being tested for the same condition either way. The difference in the bill is mostly the building you sleep in.
Why a Cardiologist Reads Your Sleep Study
Sleep apnea is a heart disease that happens to occur at night.
Every time your airway closes, your oxygen drops and your body releases adrenaline to wake you up just enough to breathe. Do that sixty times an hour, every night, for years, and it stops being a snoring problem.
That is why untreated obstructive sleep apnea turns up so often underneath atrial fibrillation that keeps returning after ablation, blood pressure that will not come down on three medications, and heart failure that keeps landing people back in the hospital.
Most patients get sent down two separate hallways for this — a sleep clinic for the breathing, a cardiology practice for the heart, and neither one reading the other's chart. Here it's one physician, one chart, one plan.
Ask yourself three questions
-
1
Has a cardiologist told you your AFib keeps coming back?
-
2
Are you on three or more blood pressure medications and still running high?
-
3
Has anyone told you that you stop breathing in your sleep?
Any one of those is a reason to test. All three, and you shouldn't wait.

How a home sleep study works here
-
Request a visit
Fill out the secure form or call. You get a real appointment time, not a callback promise — same day when we can, within 48 hours otherwise.
-
Come in and take the device home
A short visit to review your symptoms, your heart history, and your medications. You leave with the FDA-cleared testing device and instructions written in plain English.
-
Sleep in your own bed
One night, your normal routine. The device records airflow, breathing effort, oxygen level, heart rate, and snoring. No wires taped to your scalp, no stranger watching a monitor.
-
Dr. Agrawal reads it
You get your apnea-hypopnea index, your oxygen lows, and what those numbers mean for your specific cardiac risk. Then a plan.

WHAT WE TREAT
Sleep conditions we diagnose and manage
We diagnose and treat a wide range of sleep disorders from our specialized center in Athens, Georgia.
Obstructive
sleep apnea
Snoring, witnessed pauses in breathing, morning headaches, and exhaustion that sleep does not fix. Diagnosed at home, treated here.
Central
sleep apnea
Common in heart failure, where the brain briefly stops sending the signal to breathe. This one genuinely needs a cardiologist, and it is often missed.
Insomnia
Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep. First-line treatment is CBT-I, not a sleeping pill and we look for the treatable cause underneath, including untreated apnea, which is regularly mistaken for insomnia.
Restless legs
syndrome
An urge to move your legs that worsens in the evening and eases when you walk. We check ferritin first, because low iron stores drive a large share of RLS and often respond to iron replacement alone.
Circadian
rhythm disorders
Sleep that is normal in quality but happens at the wrong time. Treatment is timing rather than sedation: scheduled bright light, correctly timed low-dose melatonin, and a schedule you can hold.
Shift work
sleep disorder
For nurses, first responders, and plant and campus staff on rotating nights. Chronic shift work is an independent cardiovascular risk factor, which is exactly why it belongs in a cardiology practice.
Parasomnias
Sleepwalking, night terrors, and REM sleep behaviour disorder, where people act out their dreams. RBD is strongly associated with later Parkinson's disease, so it deserves a real diagnosis rather than reassurance.
Narcolepsy &
hypersomnia
Overwhelming daytime sleepiness, sleep attacks, or sudden muscle weakness with strong emotion. Diagnosis needs an in-lab study plus an MSLT, which we do not perform — we evaluate, order it correctly, and refer.
CPAP therapy
& support
Mask fitting, pressure adjustment, and help for people who have already given up on CPAP once. Most failures are fixable.
PART OF SOMETHING LARGER
Everything else your heart
needs is down the same hallway.
Athens Sleep & Wellness Center is a division of Athens Heart Center & Specialty Clinics at 2005 Prince Avenue rated 4.7 out of 5 across 649 Google reviews. If your sleep study turns up something cardiac, you do not get a referral and a four-month wait. You walk to the next office.
Cardiology
Echocardiograms, stress testing, arrhythmia and blood pressure management, pacemaker and ICD follow-up.
CPAP support
Setup, mask fitting, troubleshooting, and ongoing monitoring including for people who quit CPAP years ago.
Weight
management
For many patients this is the treatment that eventually shrinks the apnea itself, not just a suggestion at the end of a visit.

FAQ · CLEAR ANSWERS
Straight answers
Everything you need to know about getting evaluated, doing an at-home test, and insurance coverage.
How fast can I get a sleep test done?
You can typically take home an FDA-cleared testing device the same day as your initial consult or within 48 hours. You wear it for a single night in your own bed, bring it back the next morning, and have your results interpreted rapidly.
Do I need to sleep overnight in a lab?
For the vast majority of patients with suspected obstructive sleep apnea, no. Our modern home sleep tests are accurate, comfortable, and allow you to sleep in your own bed without dozens of scalp wires or a technician watching you.
Will insurance cover my sleep evaluation and testing?
Yes. We accept most major insurance plans, Medicare, and commercial carriers. Home sleep studies are widely covered and are far less expensive out-of-pocket than overnight hospital lab studies.
What if I’ve already tried CPAP and couldn't tolerate it?
Most CPAP failures are due to poor mask fit, wrong humidity settings, or incorrect pressure titration. We troubleshoot existing setups, switch to modern micro-masks, or explore alternative treatments like oral appliances and position therapy.
Why is a cardiologist reading my sleep study?
Sleep apnea causes sudden oxygen drops that put massive repetitive strain on the cardiovascular system—directly linking to hypertension, arrhythmias (like AFib), heart failure, and stroke. Having a physician double-boarded in both cardiology and sleep medicine ensures your heart and breathing are managed together under one roof.
Stop losing sleep.
Start breathing again.
Get evaluated by a cardiologist and sleep medicine specialist. Take home an FDA-cleared test tonight and reclaim your daytime energy.
